Transforming Wood into Wonders

Our Technology & Process

Indus Plywood ISO-certified plant is located at Perumbavoor, Cochin, Kerala. The 3-acre production complex annually rolls out high-grade ply, mainly from imported timber and logs. The production facilities include a range of state-of-the-art equipment for cutting, shaving, splicing, polishing and chemical treatment as well as for research and development. Commercial, Marine, Concrete and Shuttering are all produced at the plant.

The Way of Plywood

The process of creating plywood starts with logging, where logs are sourced and transported to the milling facility. Here, the logs are debarked to remove their outer bark and then sliced into thin layers, called veneers. These veneers are dried using modern equipment to achieve the optimal moisture content, ensuring strong bonding in the subsequent stages.

After drying, the veneers are sorted and layered with adhesive resins applied between them. It is essential that the grain directions of these veneers alternate to enhance the overall strength of the plywood. This adhesive-coated stack is then subjected to heat and pressure within presses, melding the layers into a single cohesive plywood board.

Once pressed, the plywood is trimmed around the edges and then sanded and polished to perfection. To ensure the final product’s premium quality, the plywood undergoes rigorous quality assessments to identify any internal anomalies.

TECHNICAL STORY

We use advanced technology to source premium logs, craft precise veneers, and create top-quality plywood with industry-leading standards through the use of advanced machinery.

The plywood manufacturing industry has significantly advanced with the integration of technology. Initial preparations and cutting of veneers are enhanced by computer-controlled rotary veneers and laser-guided tools. These tools ensure precise thickness and quality in veneer slices.

Advanced drying machines are employed during the drying phase, meticulously controlling temperature and moisture for uniform veneer drying. The layering and bonding processes have also seen remarkable improvements, with automated veneer laying machines and adhesive spreaders guaranteeing even application and consistency. Additionally, computer-controlled presses assist in achieving uniform bonding of the veneers.

The final stages of plywood manufacturing employ state-of-the-art machinery for trimming and sanding, ensuring the product has a refined appearance. Our in-house laboratory conducts durability tests to ensure the quality of our detection systems. These systems provide a comprehensive inspection of the plywood boards, detecting any internal defects or inconsistencies.
